Breaking The ice

The Winner's Circle, Week 2- Coach Joe Mullen

Coach Joe Mullen and a few guys on his team hit a few bumps in the road (and in the air) when traveling to Denver this past weekend, but it was worth it to come out on top for the second weekend in a row.

“The guys were really excited once again and they’ve done everything that could be asked of them,” Mullen said. “It was not a lot of time to prepare for things, but they fought through it and found a way to win. That’s the type of people that they are. They don't get riled up, they just go about their business, and get things done.”

They did not let the prolonged travel affect their game and instead, successfully came together as a group to become back-to-back 3ICE champions for Weeks 1 and 2. Between landing in Denver around 11:00 a.m. and pool play starting at 3:00 p.m., there wasn’t a ton of time to prepare before they hit the ice. After flying for four straight hours, they were eager to arrive at Magness Arena and get ready for what was ahead of them.

“All the guys wanted to do was make sure they were there on time so that they could play,” Mullen said. “When we did get there, there wasn't a lot of time. We just wanted to get some food, try to get a good stretch in, and get ready for the games because they were coming up quickly.”

Mullen acknowledged the dedication to the game that he sees in the locker room and the constant hockey talk which contributes to Team Mullen’s success. While they weren’t in the Mile High City for too long, Team Mullen made the most of their time there (especially on the ice).

“They’re veterans that know what to do before a game and how to get themselves ready,” Mullen said. “So, it's fun to walk into the locker room and just see them talking about some strategy stuff and what they want to do in games. They always find a way to compete hard enough to get the job done.”
